Self-Advocacy
New Jersey self-advocates with intellectual and developmental disabilities have been involved for decades in events, policy-making and other issues that affect their individual lives and others. They support positive changes for all and are well known in the halls of Trenton and in their local legislator’s offices. The Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) formed a Self-Advocacy Advisory Committee (SAAC). It is a workgroup comprised of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, DDD staff, the NJ Council on Developmental Disabilities (NJCDD) and the Boggs Center. Self-advocacy promotes and enables all people to live in communities of their choice.
