Leveling the Field: Accessible World Cup Experiences for All New Jersey Fans
World Cup 2026 is coming! The games start on June 11 and run through July 19. The World Cup takes place every four years, and for soccer fans, it is always a big deal. This year, the World Cup is an especially big deal for fans in the New York/New Jersey area because New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium will be hosting eight matches, including the much-anticipated final game on Sunday, July 19.
In February 2026, Governor Mikie Sherrill announced a $5 million initiative to being the excitement of FIFA World Cup 2026 to every corner of New Jersey. “New Jersey is the beating heart of the 2026 World Cup, and this initiative makes sure that every New Jerseyan — no matter where they live — can be part of this once-in-a-generation moment,” said Governor Sherrill. “From fan zones to neighborhood watch parties to street fairs, we are investing in the communities and small businesses that make New Jersey extraordinary. The World Cup is coming to our state — and we are going to make sure it belongs to New Jerseyans first.”
So, with that spirit in mind that no one should be left out of the excitement, we put together a guide to help fans with disabilities in New Jersey get the most out of their World Cup 2026 experience.
NOTE: This list will grow as the games get closer. If you have a recommendation to share with the community, please email laura.warne@rutgers.edu. It is being compiled as a helpful guide only, and we encourage you to independently verify all information.
The Heart of the Action: MetLife/NYNJ Stadium World Cup Matches
If you’re lucky enough to have tickets to one of the matches being played at MetLife Stadium (officially being called NYNJ Stadium during the Cup, but everyone in New Jersey knows it’s MetLife Stadium), you’ll want to begin by reviewing the numerous accessibility services available on the Stadium’s website. From restrooms to concessions to service animals, they have a host of services to help your experience be smooth and enjoyable.
Here is a full line-up of games that will be played at MetLife/NYNJ Stadium:
Saturday, June 13, 2026: Brazil vs. Morocco, 6pm
Tuesday, June 16, 2026: France vs. Senegal, 3pm
Monday, June 22, 2026: Norway vs. Senegal, 8pm
Thursday, June 25, 2026 Ecuador vs. Germany, 4pm
Saturday, June 27, 2026: Panama vs. England, 5pm
Tuesday, June 30, 2026: Round of 32, Teams TBD, 5pm
Sunday, July 5, 2025: Round of 16, Teams TBD, 4pm
2026 World Cup Final: Sunday, July 19, 2026, Teams TBD, 3pm
Accessible parking is unfortunately a bit more complicated. Most Stadium parking lots will be used for “fan engagement” activities. However, one lot has been set aside for fans who need ADA parking. A company named JustPark is handling parking both on and off Stadium property, and ADA parking is currently $225 for most matches, except the July 19 final, which is completely sold out as of May 1, 2026. Fans are being instructed to use NJ Transit, one of the Official NYNJ Stadium Shuttles, or rideshare/private transportation.
Another parking tip is to consider parking at or near an existing New Jersey Transit train station serving the stadium (Meadowlands Station). Even with the cost of Special Event Pricing train fare, it could be more affordable and accessible. Please note that if you will be using trains, it is important to find a conductor who can supply the wheelchair ramp that fits between the train and the gap. Arrive at the station with enough time to ensure you can find a conductor before the train takes off.
We encourage you to visit the dedicated website outlining transportation options to get to the Stadium. Your best bet is to make your parking plans early, and plan to get there as early as possible on game day, because 82,500 people are going to be doing the same thing.
Another transportation service to highlight is NJ Transit Access Link, a paratransit service for people with disabilities, providing transportation comparable to local fixed-route bus/light rail systems. When considering transportation options to the Stadium or any other watch party, Access Link could be a good option provided the address is within 3/4 mile of an existing transit line. Passengers can make, pay for, and manage rides via the NJT Access Link app, online at accesslink.njtransit.com, or by calling 973-491-4224.
American Dream's Dream Fan Fest
With its proximity to the Stadium, the American Dream Mall in East Rutherford is shaping up to be the next-closest spot to the action. This mega mall is planning a 39-day World Cup celebration from June 11 - July 19. More than 250 retailers, 65 dining venues, and 30 attractions will participate, according to the American Dream website. There will be massive watch parties, concerts, celebrity appearances, and more.
American Dream also offers comprehensive accessibility features, including wheelchair/ECV rentals, ADA parking, and accessible restrooms. The Mall is also a Certified Autism Center, providing sensory-friendly resources and low-sensory areas.
Goya Presents Flag Cities 2026 Events
Another fun way to watch the World Cup is at one of the five fan festivals that will be taking place in June in cities across Northern New Jersey.
Friday, June 12, 2026, on Columbus Drive in Jersey City
Sunday, June 14, 2026, in Overpeck Park in Bergen County
Sunday, June 21, 2026, in Laurel Hill Park in Secaucus
Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Mulberry Commons in Newark
Friday, June 26, 2026, in Downtown East Rutherford
Giant LED screens will be playing the games, and the website says there will be food trucks, live music, kids activities, and vendors, and that all events will be ADA accessible. Tickets are required, so make sure you bookmark the event website for updates. More details on accessibility can be found here.

World Cup Watch Parties in Restaurants and Bars
Many restaurants and bars are going to be planning watch parties throughout the World Cup. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), nearly all restaurants and dining establishments open to the public are required to be accessible to people with disabilities. This includes removing barriers, providing accessible entrances, restrooms, and ensuring tables are accessible. That said, people with disabilities know accessibility isn’t always a guarantee. Many places claim to be “accessible,” but that can mean anything from a ramp at the entrance to truly accessible restrooms and seating. The most reliable approach is to look for spots with step-free entry, wide aisles, accessible bathrooms, and staff awareness/training.
Generally speaking, restaurants and bars with better physical accessibility tend to be in newer, more modern buildings and have larger floorpans. Breweries can also be a great option because they often have open floor plans and industrial layouts. It is a good idea to call ahead of time and ask specific information about the accommodations needed, not just "are you accessible?"
Examples include:
“Is the entrance completely step-free?”
“Is the restroom wheelchair accessible?”
“Are tables movable (not fixed booths)?”
Rollin is also a great app for crowdsourced information on accessibility!
