Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) and the Use of Seizure Detection Devices

This training is for school personnel - teachers, aides, school nurses, bus drivers, coaches, administrators, and all other individuals who work in the school setting. It provides basic information about epilepsy, seizures, and how epilepsy can affect a student's learning. Most importantly, it highlights the importance of having a Seizure Action Plan for those students diagnosed with epilepsy and describes what you should do if a student has a seizure.  

The training will take approximately 45 minutes to complete.

This webinar addresses considerations specific to women who have epilepsy. Topics covered include: How hormonal changes affect girls and women with epilepsy; How ASMs (anti-seizure medications) may impact birth control (contraception); Special consideration before, during, and after the pregnancy; Special consideration for breastfeeding; Mature women with epilepsy, including menopause and bone health; and special considerations for women with an intellectual and developmental disability.

During this webinar, Dr. Labiner will review the currently available options for rescue therapies for seizures and how to use them. Dr. Labiner will also discuss seizure action plans and who can benefit from these.
