Just like that, graduation is around the corner!

Graduation can bring a wide range of emotions. For some, it may feel difficult to adjust to a new routine and to lose the consistency of friends, teachers, and the school environment. At the same time, this transition offers an opportunity to begin creating a life that brings joy and fulfillment. It’s important not to expect everything to fall into place right away; finding the right schedule, activities, and supports may take time and experimentation.

Supportive Housing Plans
Spring is a good time to begin thinking about supportive housing and where a person may want to live in the coming years. Because housing options can take time to secure, planning ahead is essential. While the transition to adult services can sometimes feel like a leap off a cliff, with thoughtful preparation it can instead feel like walking down a staircase—one step at a time.

Don't be Afraid to Ask for Help
Transitioning to adult services is an important step in building a person-centered life within the community. The Community Living Education Project (CLEP) is here to support individuals and families every step of the way. CLEP team members can help explore what community living looks like for each person and how to put those plans into practice. This website offers extensive educational resources, including information specifically about transitioning to adult services. Whether you’re looking to learn more or need individualized guidance, support is available.

Make Mental Health a Priority
The month of May is Mental Health Awareness Month, so it's a good time to think about mental health. It is especially important to recognize that individuals with developmental disabilities can also experience mental health challenges. Transitions can bring excitement, but they can also introduce stress. During Mental Health Awareness Month, remember it’s okay to ask for help, talk about feelings and concerns, and maintain routines whenever possible. Greater awareness initiatives, whether in May or any other time of the year, can lead to people receiving needed support and the reduction of stigma.

Celebrate Small Wins
Celebrate small successes! Whether it’s getting a first job, learning a new skill, or joining a community group, every achievement matters. Let’s continue to recognize progress and support everyone’s goals and dreams.

Wishing you a Spring full of growth, confidence, and new opportunities!
